Appellation
Russian River Valley

Tasting Notes
This very special, extremely limited wine hails from a site that consistently produces low yields and tiny, color and flavor-packed clusters. The inky purple color suggests a deep, dark, mysterious wine and the aromatic profile carries this forth, emanating a mélange of anise, bay laurel, sage, tanned leather and freshly picked black currants. A delectable array of flavors unravels on the palate with intensity, as potent elements of elderberry, candied violets and coriander emerge, with underlying layers of organic soil and fresh eucalyptus leaves. The all natural acidity gives this wine vitality and accentuates the opulent tannins, creating a persistent, tangy, sensual finish.
Vineyard Notes
The McDonald Mountain Vineyard is nestled in a very cool area near the border dividing the Russian River Valley from the Petaluma Gap, referred to as the Sebastopol Hills neighborhood of the Russian River Valley. It is where the fog first arrives inland from the ocean in the morning, and where it burns off last in the afternoon. The vineyard was planted in 2008 on one to four feet of Goldridge sandy loam underlain with Los Osos clay. The cool temperatures, fog, breezy afternoons, steep slopes and dry farming practices all contribute to the production of very small, but flavor-packed clusters and berries that retain plenty of natural acidity. The clone 667 in this wine comes from two adjacent blocks that consistently produce beautiful, seductive wines with tremendous concentration and verve. We just couldn’t bring ourselves to blend it away.
