This picturesque vineyard has quickly risen to the top echelon of Sonoma Coast Vineyards and is highly sought after by winemakers all over California. First planted in 2002, Gap’s Crown includes 106 acres of Pinot Noir and 32 acres of Chardonnay. It is located in the cool, windy Petaluma Gap in southwest Sonoma County where the climate is highly influenced by the effects of the coastal fog from the Pacific Ocean. Located in the foothills of Sonoma Mountain, the vineyard offers a variety of soil types at elevations ranging from 300 to 800 feet above sea level. The early ripening Dijon clone 667 can present delicate, red fruit and floral characteristics under certain growing conditions, or rich, dark and bold flavors when grown in a cool site, as it does here, producing powerful, concentrated wines. We were so impressed with the beauty of clone 667 that we decided to pick two of our favorite barrels to bottle just 50 cases under our exclusive “Inspiration Series,” designated by our black label.
